Some software updates for the W-ZERO3.
1. SKYPE for Mobile had a new version come out of Feb 16th. Better get into that. Current Pocket PC version: 2.5.0.170. Release date: February 16, 2009.
2. YouTube on WinMob6. Has there ever been a bigger headache? At first I wanted it, then I was over it, and then I saw an iPhone playing you tube... and I wanted it again! I racked up serious hours on the "net" trying to find a legit and simple and safe (and free) flash player for the zany 3gp files that YouTube has up so that the zany OS in my "mobile device" could play the moving pictures.
Well, with much deliberation, one disqualification, one false start, and then even a slow jump out of the blocks I finally finished the race and found a little ripper of a program.

DISQUALIFIED: TCPMP (left)
It just seemed to much of a worry and a hassle to set up. Free, but hacked out of something and not enough good info or installation tips. I still really don't know what it is! Media Player?
FALSE START: SKYFIRE (middle)
Well this was a total disappointment if there has ever been one. Looked good, solid website, good reviews. Installed easy... BUT wouldn't start up! Apparently the crew at Skyfire on "support" USA and UK at the moment which is a pity because it was a small program - actually, it is a browser that can play flash. Might have been really good. Doesn't matter though, cause I found the...
WINNER: KINOMA FREE PLAY (right)
This was a sign of desperation... I went for this player without really finding too many reviews. The program is big, 1.7MB or something to download, but super easy to install. The "slow start" was the problem getting the automatic email registration done. I got no email! But, the support at Kinoma was great and even though I was on the "free" version (nothing is free right?) they sent me the registering link and in a flash, I was up and running on Kinoma while driving to "work".
Read the reviews to all three thingy-me-bobs but Kinoma kind of frieks you out at first. It is one of those run in the background programs that wants to control all the funtions on your mobile.
e.g. a) I went to open a picture after installing it and what do you know? Kinoma opened it for me! Pleasant suprise though, it has this funky iPhone feel, spinning and zooming with the finger. WM6 couldn't do that b4.
e.g. b) I opened an MP3 and sure enough, Kinoma was kind enough to play it for me!
e.g. c) It scans ALL your files! Wow, that really shocked me out at first, but WTF heh! Atleast it tells you it is scanning them. It is not keeping it a secret right?
Anyway, you tube rocks on wi-fi on it and that was the intention, and I got several bonuses like cool photo management and a music player. The Free Play version does come with limitations however, that the $29.95 Play version would give you.
You also have to put your YouTube name and password in, so do what I did, create another account for Kinoma, and save search time by plugging tons of channels and vids you want to watch into your favorites and subscriptions and playlists. This way (1) you standard account is totally safe (subscribe to yourself too, so you have access to it) and (2) you don't waste time on the mobile searching for stuff to watch, you just WATCH.
